Cope-Myers Memorial Hillclimb at Maryhill

Bridge City Autosports is teaming up with the Northwest Hillclimb Association (NHA) for the Cope-Myers Memorial Hillclimb at Maryhill
Goldendale, WA
Bridge City Autosports is hosting the Cope-Myers Memorial Hillclimb for the first time this year. The event is sanctioned by Northwest Hillclimb Association (http://www.nhahillclimb.org).

We will have a lot of first time hillclimbers this year, and it is recommended that if you want to do a hillclimb for the first time, Maryhill Loops Road is the one to start at!

Bridge City would like to help guide newcomers through the whole hillclimb process and event weekend, to make sure you have a safe and fun time.

Hillclimbs are inherently more dangerous than autocross. A minimum of one year autocross experience is required, track experience is even better. However, hillclimbs are typically only as dangerous as the driver makes them. It’s very much a matter of mental state – the driver’s goal. Often the people involved in incidents are the more experienced drivers, who push themselves harder and harder. They’re competing. This does not have the be the case.

For all of our first time hillclimbers, we recommend you ignore classing other than knowing what class you fit into for registration purposes. This alleviates the need for competition, so you can focus on having fun on a beautiful road. You have all gone on spirited back-road drives, right? That’s what this can be the first time. The difference is, there’s no traffic, and you can cross double yellow line in the middle.

We very much want to encourage people to try Maryhill for their first time, and we don’t want people to think that they are jumping in with no guidance. Bridge City has a focus on instruction, and we want to help first-timers feel as comfortable and safe as possible their first time out.

If you’re interested in coming out for the first time, please indicate that on your registration, and we can be in touch to give more guidance.

If you are unsure about driving in the event, you are ALWAYS welcome to come help and work the corners (it’s quite different than shagging cones) and just enjoy the camaraderie and seeing cars pass by!

For this event, any classes that allow slicks of any kind require HANS-type devices. Using a HANS device requires a roll bar at minimum to be effective and safe – unless you have a HANS hybrid which is usable with a 3-point factory belt.

All drivers are required to join as members of NHA prior to registration. To sign up, and see a full list of NHA rules, visit: http://nhahillclimb.org/
